I looked at some of the murals for the first time in 40 years. I look forward to seeing the main one of Schoenbrunn done more clearly as a thumbnail.

I was at Breckinidge three times actually. The first was the summer of 1957 with my unit of the USAR from Ohio (83rd Div.) just after I was commissioned (and fit the ultimate definition of a "supernumerary officer!").

Next I was there in the summer of 1958 on TDY from Ft. Knox as Field Ration Mess Officer and Assistant Officer's Club Officer.

After I came off active duty I was assigned there to support a transportation company from Akron, OH for their summer camp.

As an infantry officer it was a wise move by whoever thought of it. They had never disassembled their weapons, much less fired them. So I gave them intensive weapons training and ran ranges for the carbine and light machine gun that I can remember, perhaps others.

In exchange I got a military driver's license for everything up to and including the 5-ton truck!

I have very fond memories of Camp Breckinridge and the people I knew there, some of them were there during its WWII days and that was a very nice link.

Someday I'll try to swing by "Morganpatch" as we called it, to see what you have done with the place. The photos look great and there was huge potential there.

Thanks again,

Glen Merrill
